SEAKEEPING ANALYSIS & MOTION RESPONSE EVALUATION
OPC provides seakeeping analysis and vessel motion response evaluation to support vessel design, offshore operations and marine transportation activities.
Numerical hydrodynamic analysis is used to predict vessel motions and accelerations across a range of wave periods, headings and environmental conditions. The results can be used to assess vessel behaviour, operational limitations and the suitability of a vessel for a particular offshore activity.
Our Capabilities
OPC can undertake seakeeping assessments including:
- Route specific vessel motions
- Motion response across multiple wave headings and periods
- Acceleration, velocity and displacement at specific locations onboard for a given return period
- Generation of Response Amplitude Operators for floating structures
- Assessment of design and operational sea states based on operation duration
- Comparison of vessel configurations, loading conditions and design alternatives
Supporting Offshore Operations
Vessel motion analysis can be incorporated directly into the engineering of inshore, offshore and subsea operations, including lifting, equipment deployment, cable operations, marine transportation and other weather-sensitive activities.
Results can be used to establish operational limits, assess equipment and cargo accelerations, determine dynamic amplification and provide vessel motion inputs for lifting, seafastening and other marine operation calculations.
Practical Engineering Approach
OPC combines hydrodynamic analysis with practical naval architecture and offshore engineering experience. Seakeeping results are presented in a form that can be directly applied to design decisions and marine operations rather than considered as a standalone analysis. Motion assessments can be undertaken in accordance with the requirements of DNV and NORSOK.
